Annus Horribilis: The Worst Year in British Politics [Unknown Binding]
Ann Treneman (Author)

Book Description
Publication Date: 3 Dec 2009
It is dizzying what has happened in the 2009 Parliament. It started in September when the government dropped the economic ball with the mother of financial crashes. And that was for starters. Never before have so many MPs resigned and have tax payers got such entertainment value out of their elected representatives in the worst year in British politics of the Millenium! In “Annus Horribilis”, the “Times” political sketch writer Ann Treneman savours this unique Parliamentary year in her widely admired witty and sarcastic style, capturing the Hogarthian display of playground spats, bickering and serious people who really cant resist the opportunity of making a fool of themselves – duck pond and all.

I take The Times (London) and always make a beeline for Ann Treneman’s columns. So here she is reporting what is said and done in Westminster and around the national political patches BUT it’s the pithy comments and the laugh-out-loud similes that make her work so cheeringly enlightening. Not the dirge that lesser talents would make such reportage seem; how could one not treasure Gordo’s hand-flapping and embarrassed wriggling in the House being compared to a whale struggling to get into a size 10 dress. What a lovable wag Ann T. is.
