Res Ipsa Jocular : The Recorder Book of Legal Cartoons Paperback – November 30, 2000
by Mark F. Bernstein (Author), Jerry Dolezal (Author), George Riemann (Author), Joe Azar (Author)

Res Ipsa Jocular takes a lighthearted look at the business of lawyering with a collection of rib-tickling cartoons appearing in The Recorder, an award-winning San Francisco Bay Area legal newspaper, and other American Lawyer Media publications. From the lawyer’s life in tech-fueled Silicon Valley to the trials and tribulations taking place inside the White House, the cartoons in this book will remind attorneys and others that there’s always something to laugh about when it comes to the legal profession.

From the Publisher
The plain truth is that lawyers are constantly doing and saying things that cry out for acid-tinged responses. And so it is that The Recorder in San Francisco and other American Lawyer Media publications around the country have made room in their pages for the cartoonists whose humorous views of the legal life have been compiled in Res Ipsa Jocular. Indeed, the length of this volume could easily have been doubled — evidence that the fodder for legal-flavored lampooning is of virtually unlimited supply.

About the Author

George Riemann has drawn weekly editorial cartoons in The Recorder since 1995. His work as a freelance illustrator has appeared in The New Yorker, Village Voice, The Wall Street Journal and Der Spiegel.

Joe Azar received his law degree in 1976 and practiced law before returning to his first love — art and cartooning. He has been drawing a weekly editorial cartoon for Legal Times in Washington, D.C., since 1997.
