If Dad Doesn’t Laugh…Run!
By Philip S. Wolf on October 2, 2010
Format: Hardcover
This is one of those little books that you are going to find in the same aisle that has all those fancy greeting cards. It will no doubt hit the shelves the day after Mother’s Day (while you are looking for her card!) But, this isn’t a book full of mushy sentiment and little fuzzy bunnies, this is Mad!
Taken right off of the pages of Mad Magazine, this is a tribute to Dad, as drawn and scribed by: “The Usual Gang of Idiots” and you know who they are. Don Martin, has many cartoon strips featured here, as does Dave Berg, Jack Davis, Wally Wood and George Woodbridge. And the big news to report here is that most all of this material is from the “Classic” Mad period that began in 1952 and lasted through to 1970, when it was all outta control and very, very funny.
Next year, skip that sappy card and give Dad this fun little book. This humor is going to take him back to the days of when his father was threatening to stop the car, and reach back into the backseat and smack him a good one.
Ah, those sweet memories!
Four Stars!
