The Best of Bar-Room Jokes
by FHM Magazine

The pub is probably the greatest comic arena ever devised, and FHM, the UK’s best-selling men’s magazine, is dedicated to preserving the gems of comedy that occur there. Every month the magazine publishes the best bar-room jokes heard across the land, and here, collected in one volume for the first time, are over 500 of the most hilarious, each one teased from the beer-sodden brain of an FHM reader in order to be preserved for future generations. The Best of Bar-Room Jokes is illustrated with a selection of stylish but quirky cartoons to make this your must-have pocket book of laughs.

Let me set the record straight – I don’t read FHM, and I never have done. In fact, I’m not even sure why I own this book – I have a feeling it was an unwanted gift from an ex-flatmate. Whatever the reason, I still decided to read and review it – after all, who doesn’t love jokes?

I like my jokes to be funny, and these aren’t. True to its title, the book is packed with the sorts of semi-witticisms you overhear at a bar when two drunks try to seduce a barmaid, accompanied by crappy cartoons that don’t really add to it.

I was planning to end on a one-liner to illustrate the types of jokes that you can expect, but I couldn’t even find one – they’re all too long, and that’s a bad sign in itself. Who’s going to remember a joke the length of a Dickens novel, and who’s going to listen to them when they tell it? This book is a joke…
