Creativity and Humour in Occupy Movements: Intellectual Disobedience in Turkey and Beyond 2015th Edition  by A. Yalcintas (Editor)

This volume offers scholarly perspectives on the creative and humorous nature of the protests at Gezi Park in Turkey, 2013. The contributors argue that these protests inspired musicians, film-makers, social scientists and other creative individuals, out of a concern for the aesthetics of the protests, rather than seizure of political power.

Biography

I am an historian and philosopher of economics, interested in the applications of evolutionary theory in the history of economic analysis. Currently, I am engaged in the preparation of (1) a special issue for the Review of Social Economy on research ethics and scientific misconduct in economics and (2) a book project, entitled “intellectual path dependence,” under contract with Routledge, due in 2015. I also do research in the social histories of Turkish political and economic theories in the modern era (from the 1930s to the present). I publish both in Turkish and English.

I earned a PhD degree in Economics and Philosophy from the Erasmus Institute for Philosophy and Economics, Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2009. During 2011-2012 academic year, I was a visiting scholar at the University of Cambridge, working on a post-doctoral research project, entitled “Philosophizing Economics.” Currently, I am an assistant professor at Ankara University. Since February 2012, I have been a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Philosophical Economics.

Besides my academic interests, I play and record music as well as short videos. You should not expect too much: I am (most of the time) out of tune. I nevertheless enjoy music as much as I enjoy academic work.
