Great Speaker Techniques and Ideas!

I highly recommend this book to anyone who has to do ANY kind of speaking, whether it’s for a board room meeting or for professional speaking. Tom Antion presents presentation techniques that include humor and other creative ideas for speakers. My favorite chapter is on what we all fear most, bombing. His chapter on Bombproofing offers many “tricks of the trade” such offering ideas on creating and practicing scripts or “saver lines” when something doesn’t go well. For example, when one of your intended lines doesn’t get the response you were hoping for you could say “I’ve got twenty more bad lines like that one and no one gets out of here until you all start laughing”. Another example is when things like a presentation board falls over and makes a loud crash you can say “Is that a signal I’ve talked to long?”. In other words, Antion offers lots of information and touches on every aspect that a new presenter, or even an old one that needs a shot in the arm, would need including my favorite – having witty comments and ad-libs in your back pocket to keep things flowing!

Some of the other chapters in Tom Antion’s book include Closings, Selection of Material, Delivery, How to Practice, and even Involvement and Interplay. So, while many other books out there on the subject of speaking are often dry and boring, Antion’s is packed with stories and information that is packaged in such a way that you feel like you’re actually at one of his presentations. Get it. You won’t be disappointed!
